Earthquakes occur when earth’s tectonic plates build up enough pressure between them that friction is overcome and a sudden movement resets the pressure enough for friction to take over again. My mind sometimes does a similar dance when I deny my feelings or disconnect my real self from myself and others.
In our last post, we discussed how one might prevent such mental earthquakes from happening in the first place – mostly by relieving the pressure often enough to keep it from overwhelming the mental-emotional system.
This time, let’s look into how we might harness the energy inherent in the pressure buildup to provide us more life energy for other projects.
In Klamath Falls, Oregon, ingenious scientists and engineers from as far back as prehistoric times, have harnessed the pressure buildup between the Pacific and American tectonic plates to provide heat for homes, electricity, and other uses of this free geothermic energy resource.
Harnessing Lifeforce Energy of Mental Earthquakes
Perhaps I can learn from the metaphoric examples of Klamath Falls and Reykjavik, Iceland, and other cities who have learned how to harness the power of geothermal energy. I can learn to harness the energy generated by my own mental conflicts to help me live my life more vigorously and energetically.
Earlier, we discussed “Aha!” in this regard. That is, perhaps instead of directing the energy of a mental earthquake into destructive emotional, verbal, and/or physical expression, we might learn to channel the energy into awakening. When a mental earthquake occurs, I might let this energy appear as a sudden mental shout, “Snap out of it!” or “Wake up!”
Next time, redirect the sudden release of energy from anger and rage, for example, into constructive action – yell, “YES!” or “WAKE UP!” (keep it short so you don’t mind-monger yourself back to sleep)
Then, DO SOMETHING positive and meaningful – like LISTEN to your inner SELF, higher power, Buddha, Christ – whatever name fits your beliefs. When the awakening comes… journal it!!! Then DO – ride the wave of energy, applying it to some project you’ve put off, for example. USE the energy you’ll feel.
Thereafter, along with listening, journaling, and positive action – READ your previous journal entry. You may be surprised to learn how much you’ve grown mentally and emotionally.
“Aha!”
